What is the Vimshottari Dasha?

The Vimshottari Dasha is a 120-year cycle of planetary periods. Each of the nine planets rules a Mahadasha (main period) of a fixed length – Ketu 7 years, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19 and Mercury 17. Your starting period depends on the nakshatra the Moon occupied at your birth.

Each Mahadasha is divided into nine Antardashas (sub-periods), and each of those into Pratyantars. Results come from how the period planets are placed in your own chart, so the same Mahadasha can be excellent for one person and testing for another.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my current Dasha calculated?

From the exact longitude of the Moon at birth: its nakshatra gives the first Mahadasha, and the part of the nakshatra already crossed gives the balance of that period.

Why is my Dasha difficult even with a good chart?

Every chart has some planets that work against the Lagna. Their periods bring lessons and effort; remedies and wise planning make them much easier.
